Set up the tip-suggestion formula

I. Purpose

The owner or manager can configure how CukCuk calculates suggested tip amounts. The restaurant can choose whether tip suggestions are based on the total order amount or the current transaction amount, and select the bill components included in the calculation.

This helps ensure that tip suggestions match the restaurant’s policies and the guest’s payment method.

II. Instruction Steps

1. Open the tip rule settings

1. On the dashboard, go to Settings → Sales.
2. Select the Tips tab.
3. Scroll to Tip rule and click Edit.

2. Select the tip suggestion basis

In the pop-up, select one of the following options:

• Total order amount: Calculates the tip suggestion based on the total amount of the order.
• Current transaction amount: Calculates the tip suggestion based on the amount paid in the current transaction.

The Current transaction amount option is useful when an order is paid in multiple transactions or when guests pay separately.

2.1. Tip suggestions by total order amount

When Total order amount is selected, the system calculates the tip suggestion based on the order total. Select the components to include in the tip calculation:

• Tax: Includes the tax amount.
• Gratuity: Includes any gratuity already applied to the bill.
• Service charge: Includes the service charge, if applicable.
• Non-cash adjustment: Includes the card surcharge or other non-cash adjustment. This option does not apply to Kiosk transactions.

The following components are included by default:

• Subtotal
• Discount

Click Save to apply the settings, or click Cancel to discard the changes.

For example, if an order total is $50 and the guest pays $20 in the first transaction, the tip suggestion is still calculated based on $50.

This option is suitable when the restaurant wants to calculate the tip based on the entire order, regardless of how the guest pays.

2.2. Tip suggestions by current transaction amount

When Current transaction amount is selected, the system calculates the tip suggestion based on the amount paid in the current transaction.

For example:

• Order total: $50
• First transaction: $20
• Second transaction: $30

The system calculates:

• Tip suggestion for the first transaction based on $20
• Tip suggestion for the second transaction based on $30

If the guest selects an amount before completing payment, the system uses the selected payment amount. If the selected amount is greater than the remaining balance, the system uses the remaining amount due.

Notes:

• The selected calculation method applies to all supported order payment methods.
• Tip suggestions are calculated during payment based on the selected setting.
• The setting does not apply when adding or adjusting tips from the Receipt list or Transaction list.
• When the entire order, cover, guest, seat, or item is paid at the final payment step, the system continues to use the configured tip suggestion rule.
• If Current transaction amount is selected, the tip suggestion is recalculated for each payment transaction.
• On printed receipts, the tip suggestion can be configured to display based on either the total order amount or the applicable transaction amount.
