Configure and perform Close of Day

I. Purpose

The restaurant managers/owners can review the day’s card transactions and send the batch to the acquiring bank before the business day ends.

II. Instruction steps

1. Configure Manual or Auto Close-of-Day

1. On the dashboard, go to Settings → Sales
2. Scroll to Close day → click Edit icon.
3. In the pop-up:
   • Tick Allow to close batch manually if a manager should trigger close-out from the POS.
   • Tick Auto-close day on POS at and set the time (HH:MM) if you want the system to close automatically each night.
4. Click Save.

Note: Only users with the Restaurant Manager or System Administrator role can modify these settings.

2. Grant roles the Close-of-Day permission

1. On the dashboard, go to Settings → Staff.
2. In Manage roles tab, click Edit icon on the role to update.
3. On the Roles tab, scroll to Report.
4. Tick Use for both End-of-day reports and Closeout reports or either of them.
5. Click Save.

Staff assigned to that role can now run the close-of-day on the POS.

3. Perform Close-of-Day on the POS

1. On the POS, tap Report
2. Select EOD Report.
3. Click Close of Day.
4. Review the tabs:
   • EOD Report tab shows the report timestamp, invoice count, daily sales overview, and total amount collected.
   • Extra info tab shows payment breakdown, Void & Refund totals (if any), and• Amount collected by tender type. If any unpaid orders or an open shift remain, complete them before closing the day.
   • Other tab shows Cancel & Void, Cash in/out, Tip by tender.
5. In the Batch out terminal part, click View details.
6. Click Batch out.
7. Click Close of Day.
8. Click Close of Day to confirm.
9. You can select to Print report or Finish.

4. FAQs

Is “Close Out Day” the same as a cash-drawer closeout?

No. Close Out Day is a manager screen on the CukCuk POS that closes the business day, processes paid / unpaid checks, pending orders, and clocked-in employees. Cash-drawer closeout is the per-drawer cash reconciliation done at the end of a shift. They are separate features.

Does CukCuk close the business day automatically, or do I have to run Close Out Day every night?

CukCuk automatically closes the day at 4:00 a.m. (local time) by default. You do not need to run Close Out Day manually unless you want an additional audit.

When does CukCuk auto-close the day and auto-capture credit-card payments?

By default at 4:00 a.m. local time:
• Closes any Paid but Unclosed checks.
• Clocks out any employees still clocked in.
• Auto-captures all uncaptured card payments from the previous day.

What happens to unpaid checks during the automatic close-out?

CukCuk does not close unpaid checks automatically. Resolve them manually.

How do I open the Close of Day screen on the POS?

POS main menu → Report → EOD Report.

What does the Auto-close button do, and what issues can it NOT fix?

Auto-resolve will:
• Close all paid checks (if no tip, they close with zero tip).
• Clock out all employees still on shift.
• Mark all orders awaiting pickup as picked up.
Auto-resolve does not handle unpaid checks; those must be fixed separately.

Why can’t employees access the cash drawer at close-out time?

Most often the Cash Drawer Access permission was not granted or not published. Enable it, publish, then reboot the POS.

How do I print a Z Report (including for a previous day) on the POS?

On POS, go to Report → EOD Report –> Select time range –> Check the reports you want to print –>  Click Print.

Why doesn’t my Z Report match the Sales Summary report?

The two reports use different scopes and inclusion rules. Gaps are usually caused by tips, service charges, refunds, unpaid / overpaid orders, and timing buckets.

What are the Z Report differences between regions?

• US/CA: Gross Sales exclude tax; Net Sales = Gross Sales – tax, discounts, refunds.
• UK/IE: All figures are tax-inclusive; Gross Sales = Net Sales + tax.

How does CukCuk handle offline payments once the POS reconnects?

When connectivity is restored, CukCuk automatically captures any authorized card payments. Do not trigger a manual batch; that can create discrepancies.

How does the 4 a.m. auto-capture of unclosed checks affect tips?

Paid but Unclosed checks are set to Closed, then Captured without a tip. Enter tips manually before 4 a.m. if needed.

Can a separate bar POS close on its own schedule?

No. The Z Report scope is per restaurant, not per device.

Why are some employee shifts still open after Close Out Day?

Shifts close when employees clock out. Verify staff have clocked out.
